Nature-Driven Material Innovations for a Sustainable Future
Crafting biodegradable, eco-friendly materials that reduce carbon emissions, and meet quality standards. Transforming industries through sustainable innovation.
Sustainable Material Innovations
At NEEMA Labs, we are on a mission to transform the fashion industry.
Introducing VELO, our plant-based leather alternative crafted from prickly pear cactus trimmings. VELO embodies our innovative approach, combining sustainability and style to offer a cruelty-free and synthetic polymer-free alternative that sets a new standard for eco-friendly fashion.

Creating Sustainable plant-based leather alternative from Waste Materials
At NEEMA Labs, we are revolutionizing the fashion industry by developing plant-based leather alternative made from waste resulting from prickly pear farming. Our innovative process utilizes waste and naturally derived materials to create a sustainable alternative to traditional leather.
Partnership with local farmers and collection of waste trimmings
Sorting and extraction of useful ingredients
Mixing natural additives and processing into durable Cactus leather alternative

BIOLEA - Materials Science & Formulation (bottom - up)

Led by NEEMA Labs in collaboration with UCY, OUC, CYI, and industrial partners, BIOLEA aims to establish the scientific and technical foundation of the biofilm: optimising composition, processing windows, and performance against industry benchmarks, while quantifying environmental benefits through LCA and regulatory assessment. The outcome is a alidated, high-performance material platform that is scalable, plastic-free, and aligned with circular-economy principles , ready to be transferred into multiple downstream applications.
The project CODEVELOP/0824/0142 is implemented under the programme of social cohesion “THALIA 2021-2027” co-funded by the European Union, through the Ίδρυμα Έρευνας και Καινοτομίας/Research and Innovation Foundation.
VELO - Product design, market fit and commercial deployment (top-down)

The project prioritizes pilot production, stakeholder engagement, cost structure, regulatory readiness, and product-market fit, with the explicit goal of launching a commercially viable Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and securing early adopters.
The project PRE-SEED/0824/0299 is implemented under the programme of social cohesion “THALIA 2021-2027” co-funded by the European Union, through the Ίδρυμα Έρευνας και Καινοτομίας/Research and Innovation Foundation.
